Labuan Bajo Itinerary: 3 Days in Komodo and Flores

Three days is a comfortable amount of time for Labuan Bajo. It gives you one full day inside Komodo National Park, or a night on a boat if you prefer, plus a day on land to see the hills, caves and villages of western Flores. This itinerary follows the order most guests find easiest: arrive and settle, go to sea, then explore overland and finish with a sunset.

Labuan Bajo Itinerary: 3 Days in Komodo and Flores

Day 1: Arrive and settle in

Most flights into Komodo Airport land in the late morning or afternoon. The airport is about ten minutes by car from the harbour and the main street, so you can be at your hotel soon after you collect your bags. Check in, have a late lunch and take a slow walk along the waterfront to get a feel for the town and see the boats moored in the bay.

Use the rest of the afternoon to confirm your boat trip for the next morning. If you booked with Arah Pesona, this is a good time to drop by the office, meet the team and ask any last questions about the pickup time and what to bring. End the day with dinner on the main street, where seafood restaurants and small cafes line the road down to the pier.

Day 2, option A: Komodo day trip by speedboat

A day trip is the simplest way to see the park. The speedboat leaves the harbour around six in the morning and covers the classic route: the viewpoint on Padar Island, the walk with a ranger to see Komodo dragons, Pink Beach for swimming, Manta Point for snorkeling, and a sandbank such as Taka Makassar. Lunch is served on board between stops.

You are back in Labuan Bajo by late afternoon with time for a shower before dinner. Day trips with Arah Pesona start from IDR 1,500,000 per person and include the boat, guide, lunch, snorkeling gear and hotel pickup. Park fees are listed separately in your quote so you know the full amount before you travel.

Day 2, option B: 2D1N sailing trip

If you would rather slow down, a two-day, one-night sailing trip replaces the day trip. The boat leaves in the morning, visits the same islands at a gentler pace and anchors overnight in a calm bay. You eat dinner on deck, watch the stars and wake up to a quiet sunrise before the day boats arrive at Padar.

Sailing trips start from IDR 3,500,000 per person with meals, cabin, guide and all stops included. Cabins range from shared rooms to private cabins with air conditioning, so the price depends on the boat and the cabin you choose. You return to the harbour on the afternoon of day two, which still leaves the evening free in town.

Day 3: Overland Flores and sunset

Western Flores is worth a day of its own. A car and driver can take you to Batu Cermin cave on the edge of town, then on to Rangko cave, where a short boat ride leads to a pool of clear water inside the rock. Further along the road are Cunca Wulang waterfall and the Melo traditional village, where the Manggarai community welcomes visitors with the caci dance.

Ask your driver to finish the day at a sunset point. Sylvia Hill sits just outside town and looks west over the bay and the islands. Love Hill, closer to the harbour, is an easy walk and popular at the end of the day. Either one gives you a last view of the water before dinner and your flight the next morning.

Where to stay and how to get around

Hotels in Labuan Bajo sit in three main areas. The town centre near the harbour is handy for early boat departures and restaurants. The hills above town have guesthouses and resorts with views of the bay. Further out, along the coast road, are larger resorts with their own beaches, usually fifteen to twenty minutes by car from the pier.

Getting around is simple. Hotel pickup for boat trips is normally included, and ride-hailing apps and local drivers cover short hops around town. For the overland day you book a car with a driver for the whole day. Many guests also rent a scooter, since the main road is short and most places are close to each other.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is 3 days enough for Labuan Bajo and Komodo?

Yes. Three days covers one full day in the national park, or a night on a boat, plus a day on land in western Flores. Guests who want more time in the water often add a fourth day for a second boat trip or diving.

Should I choose the day trip or the 2D1N sailing trip?

A day trip suits guests with a tight schedule and gives the full classic route in one day. The sailing trip visits the same islands at a slower pace, with sunrise and sunset on the water and a night on board.

Can I do the overland day before the boat trip?

Yes. The order can be swapped. Many guests prefer to go to sea first, because boat departures are early and the overland day is more relaxed, but either order works.
